Super-Extended 5+ hour marathon!
So after about two years of doing Void Radio slots on BrapFM, I decided to draw it to a close so that I’m not juggling three shows. I’ve enjoyed the freedom that Brap gives to play any genre, and I’m grateful to them and Spoll/OutOfTheVoid for giving me a route in… but the number of listeners tuning in for live broadcasts has always been woeful. It provided me with a good, low pressure introduction to the world of net radio, helped me build my confidence on the mic, and garnered some enthusiastic fans like Mike and Angel, but now I have a show on NSB with regularly 200+ listeners, Brap’s single-figure listener counts seem pointless. I know many more of you enjoyed the archives, but hopefully by dropping the show I’ll have more time to produce promo mixes for the site instead.
So for my last show, I played a wide range of genres, and included plenty of classics and all-time personal favourite tunes. Since there was no show after mine, and I had support in the chatroom, I just kept going, and going… for over 5 hours. So bear in mind the archive is a lot larger than usual…

This was supposed to be happening later this month but has been brought forward to tonight. After two years of playing regularly on Brap.FM I’m leaving so I can devote more time to my shows on other stations. Brap never took off audience-wise, although I did appreciate the musical freedom it gave me to hop around genres…
With that in mind, tonight’s show is going to be a complete free-for-all. I have nothing specific in mind to play, so it’s your chance to get in the chatroom and send in your requests during the show! I’ll be in there from 7.30pm, the show starts at 8pm.

Chunky. Funky. Rolling. Pulsing. Throbbing. Wobbling. For one night only, we went 100% techno, tech-house and tech-trance. Zero breakbeat guaranteed.

The new Watchlist, where I big up the artists and labels who I consider to be at the forefront of the music I love, has been updated. Congratulations to Amb for earning his place (it’s been long-deserved, but I’ve only recently encountered the full extent of his achievements), and to our four new contenders in the Up & Comers section, well worth keeping an eye on.
I’ve been buying really silly amounts of music lately, mainly as a result of mostly eschewing the new releases in favour of digging around for more by artists and labels that I’ve dug before. If you have hours and hours and hours to spare I highly recommend it 🙂
Anyway, it would appear that most of what’s landed in my download folder this week can be filed under tags such as chunky, funky, rolling, pulsing, throbbing and wobbling, which can only mean one thing: It’s time for a QuexTech Special! So on next week’s BrapFM show on Mon 5th Oct from 20:00 UK time I’ll lock the breakbeat away in a lead-lined box and devote the full 2 hours to the 4/4s. Techno, tech-house, tech-trance. All, of course, guided by my core passion for the progressive, the psychedelic, the synaesthetic.
Don’t miss it! Sign up for a reminder!

I’m delighted to welcome a very special guest to my Void Radio show on Brap FM next Monday who goes by the name of DIGITAL FIST. He and I met at Glade this year, and discovered that our tastes in epic triptronica were uncommonly well-aligned.
Digital Fist is a missionary for the music he loves, with infectious passion and a deep sense of the aesthetics of mixing for journeying, which has clearly been well honed by his years on the Welsh party scene.
He describes his chosen specialisms as “elaborate percussion, wall-destroying basslines, and darkly atmospheric precision machine-funk”. Some other words that spring readily to my mind are: brooding, hypnotic, glitchy, metallic, wonky, evolving, deep and dubby, dark shadows and delicate beauty… and of course, epic.
Expect synergy.
Tune in to Void Radio with Quextal b2b Digital Fist from 8pm UK time this coming Monday 7th Sept. Sign up for a reminder, you don’t want to miss this one. Trust.
NB NB NB! The URL for the Brap FM stream has recently changed. If you are using a pre-saved link, please update it to the first one of these that works for you (try them in this order): http://stream.brap.fm / http://87.117.250.5:9120/listen.pls / http://87.117.250.5:9120/.
The chatroom hasn’t changed.
I’ll give the final words to my guest:
Music is mathematics. Keep it polyhedral.

A choice selection of progressive house, tech-trance and Goa trance classics was liberally sprinkled into this month’s extended Brap show (3 hours), along with plenty of breaks, a bit of electrohouse and techno, and a psytrance workout to finish. Shouts to all the chatters!

I signed up for an extra BrapFM show this month and decided to spin some chillout in preparation for Sunday’s gig. But then found out that the DJ after my show needed cover. I said I’d carry on for a bit and switch the archives on when I got bored. I didn’t get bored!
So what we have here are 2 hours of chillout and laidback electronica, followed by 2 hours of my usual BrapFM mashup of breaks, techno, progressive house, psytrance etc.
For your convenience I’ve split the archive into these two discrete sections 🙂
Massive shouts to all those who passed through the chatroom at various points during this marathon session, you kept me going 😀
I’ll give you the download links together first, then with the tracklists below.

Well a month has gone by since the last show, which feels like ages so I’m raring to go for tomorrow’s installment of Void Radio on http://brap.fm from 8pm UK time. It’s almost my birthday so I’ll be having a few beers and spinning some classic house/trance/techno alongside the absolute cream of the month’s new releases in epic breaks and chunky progtech. I do hope you can join in the celebration 🙂
Tune in: http://212.72.165.26:9418/listen.pls
Chatroom: http://www.brap.fm/forums/ircchat/brapchat.html
While I’m here, a quick heads up about some gigs of interest in the Southampton area. First up on Saturday 13th June that bastion of fluorescent hedonism PSYCHEDELIC SATURDAY returns to the Hobbit. I will hopefully be playing, dependent on babysitter so TBC….
I am however definitely on the bill for the latest installment of the now legendary VOID VS BRAP charity alldayers in aid of Oxfam, on Sat 4th July and also at The Hobbit. Loads of great DJs lined up for this (check the flyers here) and these parties are always off the hook so save that date, more details to follow.
Hopefully see you in the chatroom tomorrow!

We commenced with some chunky prog house, followed by a bit of electro house. There was plenty of breaks of the tech-, psy- and prog- varieties, we had a bit of progressive psytrance, then finished with some more psybreaks. Thanks all those who tuned in, and special shouts to THP and Shao for keeping the chatroom alive 🙂
