If you like what you're hearing, any pennies you can spare would be most welcome! It all goes towards making more music and mixes, and maintaining this site ad-free. Thankyou!
With humble apologies for the length of time you’ve had to wait for this to be uploaded, I present the insanity that was the EIGHT HOUR epic 5th birthday show, with super-special guests Peak, Digital Fist, and Unconscious Mind(s) helping yours truly to celebrate in style, covering just about every genre from the “good” folder! I was going to split this up, but frankly I cba, and it probably works best as a single marathon session anyway… hope you enjoy it 🙂
Also, sorry the tracklist is a bit shambolic (ie completely absent for most of the guests’ mixes). It was that kind of a night 😀 I’m sure we can help you ID anything you need ID’d.
Artists: 9b0, Amb, BSD, Bobina, Bones, Chook, Cosmonaut, Digipack, Digital Fist live in the mix!, Digital Fist live in the mix! (psydub), Dreadzone, Eat Static, Eelke Kleijn, Eelke Kleijn ambient, Electrocado, Fierce, Flack.Su, Frequency Less, Futurebound, Green Firm, Hyperion (Oz), Insulin, Koma, Kwah, LM1, Lifecycle, Martsman, Matrix, Metabreed, Modified, Mouldy Soul, Mr Dan, Naga, Nick Hogendoorn, Opiuo, Opuio, Peak, Peak live in the mix!, Phace, Poxymusic, Ray!, Rennie Pilgrem, Royal Blood, Skynet, Snap!, The Fixionist, Tipper, Trisector, Unconscious Mind(s), Unconscious Mind(s) live in the mix!, VIP, Vent, Vibrasphere
The first half of the show is turned over to a bunch of new midtempo shizzles… the stuff that I call skanky glitch crunk, but everyone else now knows as glitch hop, including several from my new discovery in this field, Royal Blood. Then for the second half we have the pick of the breaks promos. Download (154.3MB 192kbps MP3 112’22”)356 downloads
We celebrate 2 years of Quexotic Adventures in style by, well, doing what we usually do: bringing you the very finest and freshest progressive breaks and psybreaks promos, new releases and freebies… but as it’s our birthday, we’ll throw in a few exclusives too 🙂 – with massive thanks to Snook, Project Synthetic, and, er, Quextal 😀
Big big love to everyone who’s supported the show over the past couple of years, especially the chatroom regulars who spur me on during every broadcast with kind feedback, rude remarks, hilarity and randomness.
Get yourselves down to the Soul Cellar in Southampton this Friday for what promises to be an epic night of underground sounds, including breaks, psytrance, techno and more (and that’s just my set!) from a huge number of very talented producers and DJs, plus amazing decor and the south’s friendliest, most up-for-it crowd!
Jumping on for another cover session, taking in everything from funky midtempo to the freshest and phattest psybreaks, progbreaks and techfunk promos, a bit of 140 jungle and ravebreaks, and finishing up with some oldskool classics! Download (151.2MB 192kbps MP3 110’06”)1536 downloads
I was in a more-than-usually adventurous and experimental mood going into this show… there’s nothing hugely far out, this is all still the breaks that you know and love, but a little different… tempo ranging more widely than usual, more unusual juxtapositions of styles and sounds… it’s good to have a session of Beating (Back) The Boundaries every so often…
Unplanned double-length show this week… and boy did we fit a lot into it! 42 tracks in all, which is a very appropriate number what with Towel Day coming up. So what lies within?

First we round up the best of the latest releases and promos as usual, including a hot new pre-promo from Kwah (thanks man!) and some choice collaborations from VIM‘s new compilation celebrating their 100th release (congratulations on reaching that milestone, and big ups Greg and everyone else involved in this label which has been providing quality fuel for my radio shows pretty much since I started on Brap all those years ago!)
We then bid a fond farewell to Parallax Breakz, a name that will be familiar to all regular listeners of this show and indeed anyone on the prog/psybreaks scene. The man behind that name, Ukraine’s Alexander Zhikharev, is moving on to new musical pastures under different names, but we couldn’t let him go without a retrospective of some of the stack of great progressive and psychedelic breaks that he has produced over the past few years.
One of Alex’s future musical directions will be deep drum’n’bass, so for most of the (unexpected) second two hours of the show we went on one of QA’s semi-regular forays into that genre, bringing you some of the highlights of Med School’s eagerly awaited New Blood 011 along with more selections from the leading lights of intelligent dnb, starting progressive and getting pretty twisted by the end.
Yes I’ve finally got a tune coming out… my remix of Digital Breaks Foundation‘s “Going Back” will be released, along with the original and further remixes by Ghettface and Big Mistake, on VIM Breaks, hopefully next month. It’s an acid-drenched epic breaks monster! Here’s a preview:
