A dubstep track to kick things off… yes, really, dubstep. I have a near embargo on the genre but I do break it on the rare occasions that I find something worth breaking it for, and I hope you agree that this track is worth it. The rest of the show takes the more usual course through the latest and greatest of psybreaks and dnb. More choice selections from the world of progressive and psychedelic breaks past, present and future! Download (152.7MB 192kbps MP3 111’13”)[downloadcounter(quextal_live_on_nsb_2011-05-21.mp3)] downloads
Unplanned double-length show this week… and boy did we fit a lot into it! 42 tracks in all, which is a very appropriate number what with Towel Day coming up. So what lies within?

First we round up the best of the latest releases and promos as usual, including a hot new pre-promo from Kwah (thanks man!) and some choice collaborations from VIM‘s new compilation celebrating their 100th release (congratulations on reaching that milestone, and big ups Greg and everyone else involved in this label which has been providing quality fuel for my radio shows pretty much since I started on Brap all those years ago!)
We then bid a fond farewell to Parallax Breakz, a name that will be familiar to all regular listeners of this show and indeed anyone on the prog/psybreaks scene. The man behind that name, Ukraine’s Alexander Zhikharev, is moving on to new musical pastures under different names, but we couldn’t let him go without a retrospective of some of the stack of great progressive and psychedelic breaks that he has produced over the past few years.
One of Alex’s future musical directions will be deep drum’n’bass, so for most of the (unexpected) second two hours of the show we went on one of QA’s semi-regular forays into that genre, bringing you some of the highlights of Med School’s eagerly awaited New Blood 011 along with more selections from the leading lights of intelligent dnb, starting progressive and getting pretty twisted by the end.
I was away for my usual Saturday slot, so stepped in to cover for 601’s show on Sunday instead. A particularly squelchy selection of psybreaks and off-the-hook sickbeats if I say so myself, and showcasing some of the new artists that are giving away awesome tunes for free on Soundcloud at the moment, alongside the best of the current promos and releases…
Bend your legs when lifting this mix – it’s heavy!
Yes I’ve finally got a tune coming out… my remix of Digital Breaks Foundation‘s “Going Back” will be released, along with the original and further remixes by Ghettface and Big Mistake, on VIM Breaks, hopefully next month. It’s an acid-drenched epic breaks monster! Here’s a preview:
Kicked off this week with some selections from the leftfield, the further reaches of trip-breaks that I don’t get a chance to spin very often, before moving to more familiar territory with the fattest progressive, psybreaks and electrobreaks of the moment… Download (163.2MB 192kbps MP3 118’48”)[downloadcounter(quextal_live_on_nsb_2011-03-05.mp3)] downloads
Another chapter of Tales… this week featuring chunky rolling techno, blissed progressive, epic psybreaks and twisted psytrance in a slightly more compact show than has become typical for Tales, only slightly over 2 hours 🙂 Download (186.5MB 192kbps MP3 135’48”)[downloadcounter(quextal_live_on_psymusic_2011-02-20.mp3)] downloads
No new promos came in this week, so I had to go shopping for once. This is the result: Sick basslines galore! An hour and a half of nasty, twisted psy-edged breaks, followed by half an hour of evil DnB. Please note that this mix contains basslines that are too obscene and depraved for innocent ears… Download (165.3MB 192kbps MP3 120’23”)[downloadcounter(quextal_live_on_nsb_2011-02-12.mp3)] downloads
Brand new breaks alongside some lesser-known but worthy classics. How thoroughly Quexotic! Next show is NEXT WEEK 12th Feb, then I’m off for two weeks. Should be back to normal first and third Sats from next month. Download (159.3MB 192kbps MP3 116’00”)[downloadcounter(quextal_live_on_nsb_2011-02-05.mp3)] downloads
Stacks of promos on this week’s return of Quexotic Adventures following my house move, including two brand new labels that will be well worth keeping an eye on, Psychoactive and Logariddim, plus old favourites VIM, Dusted Breaks and Dead Famous. Psybreaks and progressive breaks all the way on this one… well, nearly all the way… 🙂 Plus first play of my new tune 😀 Download (167.1MB 192kbps MP3 121’42”)[downloadcounter(quextal_live_on_nsb_2011-01-29.mp3)] downloads
