Gig this Saturday… and a certain Festival…

8 March 2010

Psychedelic Saturday Flyer

Bit of gig news for you. This Saturday you can catch Quextal on another visit to the hallowed halls of The Hobbit in Southampton for Psychedelic Saturday. Not exactly sure what genre(s) I’ll be playing yet, but it’s a fairly safe bet that psybreaks will be in there prominently… nor am I sure what time I’m on, but I advise getting down early anyway because it’s free entry before 10pm!

The other little bit of gig news is that I’ve been booked to play at this year’s Glade Festival. I’ll be in the PsyMusic tent, which was consistently one of the best stages last year and I understand is going to be larger this year. Having been to almost every Glade as a punter, I’m vibrating with excitement at the chance to spin some tunes there – thanks to the PsyMusic crew for making it happen, and I hope to see loads of you there :)

Mike Dyson – Breaks

Waveform

15 September 2009

Hugs to everyone I met at this year’s superb Waveform Festival. I’ve been to all three of them and this one was undoubtedly my favourite so far, thanks to all the lovely people. Also unexpectedly scored my debut festival set on Sunday evening in the little orange tent. Unfortunately I couldn’t actually see the dancefloor from the booth but I’m told it went down well :)

So, if you’re visiting this site for the first time having received a limited edition Mk2 business card, welcome, and hope you can tune in tonight to Psymusic Radio from 7pm (UK time) – please come and make yourself known in the shoutbox during the show (you need to register for the forum if you aren’t on there already).

Forthcoming gigs and radio shows

8 June 2009

EDIT: Added another gig on the 28th!

First up, I’m on the bill for the next Psychedelic Saturday at The Hobbit in Southampton on Sat 13th June. Now, whether I’m actually playing or not currently depends on getting a babysitter, so it’s not definite yet but hopefully… Anyone who’s been to one of these before knows it’s one of the Hobbit’s most popular and out-there parties so even if I don’t make it, don’t miss it!

I’m once again covering for Ali Rutt on The Mobius Trip on NSBRadio next Mon 15th June from 7pm UK time, spinning the cream of the crop of new releases and scorchio promos from the world of psy-tech-electro-breaks.

The following week, Mon 22nd June I’m doing an extra Void Radio slot over on Brap FM from 8pm. You know what to expect by now… the unexpected!

On Sun 28th June I’ll be playing a downtempo and chillout set for a change at That Chilled Night @ Ad Hoc, High St, Southampton. The evening runs from 3pm to 1am and promises to be a great chilled wind-down to the weekend, and it’s only a quid before 9pm so get down early!

Finally, on Sat 4th July I’m back at The Hobbit for the next Void vs Brap all-dayer in aid of Oxfam. It runs 1pm to 1am and I’m playing back2back with the aforementioned Mr Rutt, alongside sackloads of quality DJ talent playing everything from dubstep to dnb, house to techno. Void parties always rock so put it in your diary now!

Void Radio Mon 1st June, and some gig news

31 May 2009

Well a month has gone by since the last show, which feels like ages so I’m raring to go for tomorrow’s installment of Void Radio on http://brap.fm from 8pm UK time. It’s almost my birthday so I’ll be having a few beers and spinning some classic house/trance/techno alongside the absolute cream of the month’s new releases in epic breaks and chunky progtech. I do hope you can join in the celebration :)

Tune in: http://212.72.165.26:9418/listen.pls
Chatroom: http://www.brap.fm/forums/ircchat/brapchat.html

While I’m here, a quick heads up about some gigs of interest in the Southampton area. First up on Saturday 13th June that bastion of fluorescent hedonism PSYCHEDELIC SATURDAY returns to the Hobbit. I will hopefully be playing, dependent on babysitter so TBC….

I am however definitely on the bill for the latest installment of the now legendary VOID VS BRAP charity alldayers in aid of Oxfam, on Sat 4th July and also at The Hobbit. Loads of great DJs lined up for this (check the flyers here) and these parties are always off the hook so save that date, more details to follow.

Hopefully see you in the chatroom tomorrow!

WaxOnWaxOff @ Chesters, Bristol – Fri 6th Mar 2009

3 March 2009

This coming Friday, 6th March, you can catch me playing at an excellent night in Bristol called WaxOnWaxOff, which takes place at a great little venue called Chesters on Frogmore Street. I had a wicked time at the last WO:WO (just as a punter) so I’m reallly looking forward to this one.

The music policy is a heady mixture of fat breaks and twisty psytrance, so of course I’ll be concentrating on psybreaks :)

Shimon (RAM/FingerLickin) is headlining, with support from Dexter Styles, Mishima and Tethis. It runs 10pm-4am and admission is only £2 b4 11, £4 after.

Hope to see you there :)

Psychedelic Saturday @ The Hobbit 31st Jan 2009

19 January 2009

If you’re in the Southampton area get yourselves down to The Hobbit on Saturday 31st January where I’m playing at a night called Psychedelic Saturday. All psy-styles are represented from the 60s to now, but with an emphasis on the more modern and danceable stuff :-) I’ll be playing…well…the psy edge of what I normally play, ie psy-breaks, psy-trance, psy-techno, psy-wonk, psy-dnb… you get the picture… should be an awesome party :) Music runs 8pm – 1am, it’s free entry before 10pm, £2 after, and the bar stays open until 3. See you there!

Oxjam reminder: Sunday 25th May from 1pm!

18 May 2008

Don’t forget… n e x t w e e k e n d Bank Holiday Sunday 25th May 2008 everyone within a hundred miles of Southampton is instructed to converge on The Hobbit pub in that town at precisely 1pm (don’t be late or you’ll miss my set!) for 12 hours of massive musical mayhem and good times galore.

I’ve been given the honour of starting the proceedings, 1-2 in the afternoon. There will be barbecue there with good food, so no need to have lunch before you come down. You should obviously expect to be dancing for the whole of my set 8-), but then you’ll have worked up a proper appetite and you’ll appreciate that nice charred burger all the more.

Void Party flyer info for 25th May

And of course, it’s all for a good cause: Everyone involved in putting on the party is giving their services and equipment for free, so all proceeds and donations go straight to Oxfam to help those whose need is so unimaginably greater than ours. We get a really great party. They get access to fresh water, or a goat, or emergency rations, and the support of an organisation which continues to campaign for a fairer world, for the rights of the world’s poorest people to clean water, sufficient food, shelter, healthcare, knowledge… the essentials of survival that we take for granted.

Void Oxjam Alldayer @ The Hobbit 25th May

5 April 2008

I’ll be playing alongside a baker’s dozen of the other finest southcoast DJs at this event, masterminded by those crazy folk over at Out Of The Void. The date and time for your diary is 1pm to 1am on the Bank Holiday Sunday 25th May, and it’s all for charidee, so even if you don’t care about seeing me play, come along anyway. Last year’s event was several metric shedloads of fun, and this one is shaping up to be even more awesome, if such a thing were possible.

Void Oxjam flyer

Exactly what style of music I’ll be playing has yet to be determined… depends on the running order. But whatever it is, you can be sure it’s music for the mind, the heart and the feet, so come ready to dance…

EDIT: I’ll be on first (1pm) so I guess I’d better play something of an uplifting and progressive flavour (breaks/house/trance) rather than spooky techno. Probably.
